In 1911, the limited company Papeteries de Genval came into being. Founded in 1904 by Auguste Lannoye (the Mayor of Genval for 12 years), it specialized in the production of packaging paper and wallpaper.

From 1923, it started production of Ballatum, the famous floor covering used throughout the world. In 1980, Papeteries stopped its operations after a presence in the sector that had lasted nearly 70 years. Papeteries de Genval provided work for thousands of employees and workers.
